Dani Or receives John Dalton Medal
The European Geosciences Union (EGU) has awarded the John Dalton Medal to Dani Or.
This medal has been established to honour scientists who have achieved exceptional international standing in Hydrological Sciences in the spirit of John Dalton, a famous pioneer in hydrometeorology and modern chemistry.
The committee has recognized the contributions made by Dani Or’s group to the understanding of evaporation from porous surfaces, a central process in hydrology and climate and to the quantitative description of flow and transport in unsaturated porous media as soil and rocks. Dani Or’s group has been able to formulate the evaporation dynamics story from the soil «point of view» thereby complementing the common atmospheric view of the process.
«I am deeply honored by the recognition from the hydrological community and EGU – especially considering the association of the award with Dalton a pioneer I always respected for the diversity of his contributions from modern atomic theory to hydrometeorology, says Dani Or, Deputy Head of Institute of Biogeochemistry and Pollutant Dynamics at D-USYS.
The presentation of the medal will be made during the General Assembly of the Union in Vienna form 23 to 28th April 2017.
