ETH ranked best academic institution in Nature Index 2018 Earth & Environmental Sciences

ETH is listed number one among the 200 best academic institutions in Earth & Environmental Sciences in the Nature Index 2018. This index is based on publications in the 82 journals selected as the most important journals by two panels of scientists, which are independent of the Nature Publishing Group.
The tables show leading institutions ranked by their fractional count (FC) in Earth and Environmental Sciences from 2015 to 2017. The fractional count (FC) takes into account the percentage of authors from that institution and the number of affiliated institutions per article. Also listed are the institutions’ total number of Earth and Environmental sciences articles in the Nature Index (AC) and the proportion of each institution’s FC in Earth and Environmental Sciences relative to total FC from 2015 to 2017 (% E&E).
In the external page top 200 institutions in Earth & Environmental Sciences, the US remains by far the largest producer of high quality Earth and Environmental Sciences research, but China’s output has grown rapidly since 2012 to take over second place from the United Kingdom. For every other top ten country producer of Earth and Environmental Sciences research, output has been declining. Among the published issues, climate change looms largest.
