Konrad Steffen, director of WSL and professor for climate and cryosphere at ETH Zurich and EPFL Lausanne, has died following an accident in Greenland this past weekend.

Prof. Koni Steffen, our esteemed and highly valued colleague and director of the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research (WSL), died on Saturday on Greenland in a tragic accident. We not only lose an outstanding scientist, who studied climate, ice and snow interactions in polar and alpine regions, but also an extremely committed researcher who shaped polar research in Switzerland.
We will remember Koni as the tall and slender professor, the truly engaged advocate of polar research at our department, across the ETH domain and beyond. Our thoughts are with his family and close friends.
