New WSL Director takes up work at the Department of Environmental Systems Science

On 4 June 2021, the Federal Council appointed Beate Jessel as the new Director of the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research (WSL). Her function as the Director of the WSL is linked to a joint professorship at ETH Zurich and EPFL.
Joël Mesot, President of ETH Zurich and the ETH Executive Board; therefore, appointed Jessel as a new Professor in the university’s Department of Environmental Systems Sciences on 14 July. She will take up her new roles at the beginning of September 2021. Her research interests encompass concepts and strategies for nature conservation, landscape development, land use management, environmentally oriented planning, river basin management, and landscape aesthetics. At EPF Lausanne, she will serve as a professor in the Faculty of Building, Architecture, and Environment.
