These D-USYS researchers are the most cited
It's almost a tradition: Erich Fischer, Nicolas Gruber, Reto Knutti, Sonia Seneviratne and Johan Six are once again among this year's "Highly Cited Researchers". Congratulations to the award-winning researchers!
Every year, Clarivate's Institute for Scientific Information identifies the scientists whose scientific articles are most frequently cited by their peers. Of the 6,886 scientists on this year's list of "Highly Cited Researchers", 105 are active in Switzerland, 20 of whom conduct research at ETH Zurich (18) or have an affiliation with ETH Zurich (2).
"Highly Cited Researchers" at D-USYS 2024
- Erich Fischer, Professor at the Institute for Atmospheric and Climate Science (IAC)
- Nicolas Gruber, Professor of Environmental Physics at the Institute of Biogeochemistry and Pollutant Dynamics (IBP)
- Reto Knutti, Professor of Climate Physics at the Institute for Atmospheric and Climate Science (IAC)
- Sonia Seneviratne, Professor of Land Climate Dynamics at the Institute for Atmospheric and Climate Science (IAC)
- Johan Six, Professor of Sustainable Agroecosystems at the Institute of Agricultural Sciences (IAS)
Furthermore:
- Arthur Gessler, Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research (WSL), Adjunct Professor at D-USYS, ETH Zurich
- Michael Siegrist, Professor at the Department of Health Sciences and Technology (D-HEST), affiliated with the Institute for Environmental Decisions (IED) at D-USYS, ETH Zurich
- Niklaus Zimmermann, Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research (WSL), Adjunct Professor at D-USYS
To determine the Highly Cited Researchers, the scientific publications of the last decade are analysed. The different scientific disciplines are considered proportionally: One researcher per thousand per discipline is honoured.
As in previous years, researchers from the USA make up the largest share of the global list with 2,507 Highly Cited Researchers. This corresponds to 36.4 %, followed by mainland China (20.4 %) and the United Kingdom (8.2%). Swiss researchers account for around 1.5 % of the global list of Highly Cited Researchers.
Further information
The Institute for Scientific Information has been producing these analyses since the 1950s and has been part of the British-American company Clarivate Analytics since 2016. The company also produces the "Journal Impact Factor", which serves as a measure of the importance of individual scientific journals.
