Effects of microplastic on water dynamics and liquid configuration in soils
- There is high awareness of microplastic contaminating environments raising concern worldwide.
- Microplastic is found in terrestrial systems, but little is known about soil environments.
- Microplastics are inherently hydrophobic and represent a hydrophobic surface addition to soil.
- Consequently, they are potentially increasing soil water repellency.
We hypothesize that low wettability of MP induces soil water repellency, depending on MP content and size of MP and soil particles.
We are working with soil physical methods and neutron imaging to quantify and visualize changes in water dynamics and liquid configuration caused by microplastic.

In general, I'm interested in all kinds of nature science. Either if it is by reading about it or experiencing it. I'm still impressed by nature and its mechanisms and regularly experience awe by its sheer beauty.
