Research area

I study forest regeneration dynamics, with a focus on masting cycles and seed predation in temperate forests. My research explores how tree species synchronize their seed production (masting and co-masting) and how seed predators—including insects, small mammals, and birds—affect seed survival and seedling recruitment. I combine long-term seed production data, camera trap studies, and seed removal experiments across different ecosystems, including Mt. Rainier National Park (USA) and Swiss forests. By examining both the temporal patterns of seed availability and the role of seed predators in shaping forest composition, I aim to better understand how tree species will regenerate under climate change and how seed-animal interactions may influence forest resilience.

I am a motivated and adaptable professional with a strong background in ecology, climate sciences, and marine conservation. My diverse experiences range from fieldwork and research roles to teaching and management positions, with a particular focus on environmental conservation, biodiversity, and community ecology. I have a deep interest in both terrestrial and marine ecosystems, and I am passionate about contributing to sustainable practices through scientific research and fieldwork.

With a Master of Science in Climate Sciences from the University of Bern and a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, I have honed expertise in data management, field research, and scientific communication. My academic background is complemented by extensive hands-on experience in ecological research, including seed predation and forest management at ETH Zürich, as well as coral restoration projects in the Caribbean. I have worked on large datasets, managed research teams, and developed a solid foundation in GIS and other data analysis tools, including ArcGIS, R Studio, and Adobe Illustrator.

Additionally, I speak multiple languages (French, English, German, Spanish, Arabic) and hold several professional certifications, such as PADI Dive Instructor, Wilderness First Aid, and Ski Instructor.
