Alfred Wüest was awarded the title of Professor in 2002.
Degree in particle physics at University of Zürich in 1982. Ph.D. Graduation (ETH Zurich) on deep water mixing in natural waters in Prof. D. M. Imboden's group in 1987. With a Swiss National Science Research and Travel Fellowship 1988 at the Applied Physics Laboratory (UW, Seattle, Prof. M.C. Gregg) for oceanic and estuarine micro-structure. 1998/99 as a Visiting Scientist at Institute of Ocean Sciences, Sidney, Canada.
Activity:
Since 1989 leading the Aquatic Physics Group at EAWAG: Micro-structure-observed small-scale turbulence, benthic boundary and stratified interior mixing, turbulence modeling, internal wave analysis and the relation of physical processes on bio-geochemical cycling in lakes (Aquatic Physics ). Consulting on Lake Restoration, Lake Aeration and hydropower-related aquatic ecology. Teaching Aquatic Physics at ETH-Zürich. Since January 2000 head of the new department Applied Aquatic Ecology (APEC ).
