Entomological Collection

Lysandra coridon
"Insect of the Year, 2015".  These Swiss butterflies (Lysandra coridon) collected in the past 200 years can provide unique data for research on climate change.

With around two million specimens, the Entomological Collection of ETH Zurich is among the largest scientific insect collections in Switzerland. It is the result of more than 170 years of collecting by numerous natural scientists.

The geographical focus is on insects from Switzerland and Europe, but there are important collections of butterflies and moths (Lepidoptera), beetles (Coleoptera) and wasps (Hymenoptera) from other parts of the world. The holdings also include a large collection of slides depicting insects native to Switzerland as well as important systematic publications and identification keys.
