Professional Internship
The professional internship is a compulsory part of the Master’s degree programme and requires that each student complete 18 weeks outside of the ETH domain.
The compulsory professional internship is intended to promote an understanding of the framework conditions under which environmentally sound solutions are developed and implemented in professional life. The students apply the knowledge acquired during their studies and focus on a (sub-)project or a defined task from the field of environmental sciences. In addition, the internship shows them possibilities of future professional activities and helps them to establish contacts for starting a career.
The students look for the internship position themselves. The position must correspond to the aims and requirements of the professional internship. The internship can be completed in Switzerland or abroad, which broadens the experience of dealing with environmental problems in other countries. Students can decide for themselves at which point in the Master's degree programme the professional internship is completed, provided that the admission requirements according to Art. 27 Para. 6 in the programme regulations for the Master's degree programme are fulfilled.
For an internship to be accepted as compulsory professional internship, an internship agreement must be submitted before the start of the internship and approved by the internship coordinator and the supporting lecturer.
At the end of the professional internship, the students submit an internship report in which they report on their tasks and the internship company as well as reflect on their working life and the experiences made.
Detailed information, resources and templates related to the professional internship can be found in the corresponding Moodle course.
