I am currently studying carbon cycling and stabilization in alpine and arctic soils of the Alps and of Svalbard. To identify the role of different soil organic matter stabilization mechanisms, I am interested in the application of ¹³C and ¹⁵N stable isotopes to trace the stabilization of organic matter in different soil fractions.

In the past I have been involved in smaller research projects on soil organic carbon dynamics in tropical African soils and on the contribution of microbial necromass to soil organic matter along a geochemical soil gradient in Chile.
