Research area
I am a postdoc in ETH-Zürich's Plant Ecology group, working mostly on forest ecology. I am particularly interested in understanding the temporal dimension of ecology. While understand spatial challenges in ecology better and better, time remains a mayor challenge where we still lag behind. This is particularly important for trees and forests, which can live for decades and centuries, and for which we still use a short-term view of ecology. I focus on the study of long-term responses, rare but influential events, and changes through development over long-lived species across European and global forests. To address the considerable challenge of obtaining long-term, large-scale yet detailed data, I like combining multiple approaches, from observational to modelling, and using tree ring data, forest inventories and big open data.
