Exploring Climate Policy and Design Thinking in a hands-on weekend at the CAS ETH in Climate Innovation

Last weekend, the CAS participants were offered both theoretical grounding and time with practical tools – to better understand the broader systems at play and to sharpen the focus of their case studies.

The first day was dedicated to climate policy, led by Anthony Patt. Through group exercises and critical discussions, our participants explored how economic frameworks shape climate policy – and how these policies can be designed to support sectoral mitigation. It was a chance to connect the underlying concepts with real-world challenges, and to reflect on the role of policy in enabling systemic change.

The second day shifted to a more exploratory mode, with a design thinking session under the lead of senior coach Anja Niedworok. Participants revisited their problem statements, challenged assumptions, and tested new angles – all in service of gaining a deeper understanding of the issues they aim to address. The day was marked by lively discussions, creative energy, and a shared sense of purpose.

The result? A clearer grasp of the problems at hand, and a stronger foundation for the solutions to come.
